Aren't the contested areas of Ukraine the backwater, nazi-filled ones anyway?

Culturally speaking, It'd be like if the yellow area was Texas, Idaho, Alabama, etc.. Not the eastern coast. The rest of the US wouldn't be sad about that.

A country can be oppressed, besieged, occupied and harboring nazi militias. Multiple things can be true at once.

I've never been to Ukraine but I would assume any area associated with Nazis would be moreso in the west close to Germany, no?
