That is fascinating, would like to read more. Has relevance to /mirror-loom I have some initial hypotheses why this could be.

Iain McGilChrist talks a lot about what goes wrong in Schizophrenia in The Master and his Emissary. Has to do with internal world model, which obviously would be very different in non-visual.
