As a parent, how highly do you value fostering independence in your children? Personally, I value it very highly, a bit higher than my wife, and I'm curious if that's a typical mom/dad dynamic or not.

Yes, independence with respect and guidance and lots of open communication. Gotta help them get used to making choices and understanding consequences while recognizing mistakes are best teachers.
