I suspect people who say they hate running should try walking for several months before trying running. Unless you're either aerobically gifted or already in good shape, any running speed will spike your heart rate uncomfortably high.

Just like with deadlifts, the risk-reward for running doesn't seem great. I would much rather play tennis or soccer, which is at least social and enjoyable as well, and engages other parts of the body
