Hopefully nobody because why are people charging for channels? No offense. There are weirdos that have been moderating Facebook groups for 10 years without charging a dime.

it all comes down to: do you believe people should be compensated for the time and effort they put in to maintaining groups and communities? if facebook and reddit mods had clear paths and tooling to monetize their communities, would they?

different tool sets and building blocks allow for different forms to evolve and emerge - i see all of this as an experiment of what happens when you give community leaders more choice and agency over their communities

agree about the possibility of folks being priced out. it is only day 2 of the change but some channels have been charging for months already now. we may find this is necessary for the initial growth of the network, and once it hits a larger scale, subscription prices could drop 

afaik all moderators are splitting the subscription costs with channel members by rewarding those with the best content

plus multiple channels of the same topic can be created. some monetized, some not.

tldr; lots of possibilities here for how channels (and the ecosystem) can develop. we ourselves can influence that by experimenting with different community types

I mean yeah but web3 is a very global space, lots of people from developing countries and lots of people from the west with extra cash to spend. It’s not a very even playing field and a lot of people are going to be priced out of communities.

I think we’re shifting away from the “everything should be free model”, which will hopefully allow more people to earn a sustainable living for their time and attention put into communities
