You’re totally right! I do wonder how much of it is what you said + laziness as they dominate the market 🤔 

+1 on the modern tools taking bad inspo from AE, it’s like we can’t get away

This one is tough because on one hand it is a hot mess, but on the other it’s likely running a lot of legacy code under the hood, along with 30 year old UX patterns. Similar can be said about Photoshop and Illustrator.

Some modern alternatives have come up but they’ve too been influenced by these dated designs.

I spent an hour today trying to export my comp through media encoder but it never loaded, even when I manually added it through file browser instead of direct from AE

such trash ux for such a huge company that makes tooling for designers 🥲

Please yes. It never made any sense. Plus to export in certain formats (like one of the most used for web, gif) you have to go through media encoder, aggravating the experience even more.

I haven’t opened up AE in years, looks like nothing has changed.
