hi everyone :) I've been building teams for most of my career. Always at startups because it's more fun. I joined Optimism two years ago and am responsible for developing our Engineering, Product, and Design teams. I love crypto and I love Farcaster. Feel free to ask me about literally anything!!

Curious to know what are the key characteristics of building out a successful team? Does it differ from a technical team versus a design team? What do you hire first at a start up?

Building a team: 1. understand the role/need 2. understand the candidates 3. don't settle + don't rush Those fundamentals don't really shift across teams. First hire at a startup: Totally depends on what you are building! We spun out of a research org that was six technical people. A GC was an early hire.

How do you balance point 3 with ensuring the team waiting to add someone to their lines doesn’t burn out in the process?
