i have a question for the farcaster OGs... why *hasnt* a photo only version client taken off yet? ive searched - and it seems the idea pops up every 2-3 months, n there have been some efforts to pursue, but it has never taken hold. why?

imo farcaster felt dev heavy up until a couple months ago, so text-based clients made more sense for knowledge/thought transfer. Now that the social network is more mature I think we’ll see more demand for photo based clients. @stevedylandev.eth took a crack at this tho with @photocast

this might be a bit handwavey, but I suspect photo clients need OOM larger network/engagement to reach the same vibe. now, if someone were to take what @jacob & others just shipped, and created a reaction -> patronage -> curator's fund...

My guess would be that the network til now has been too "business casual" to actually have enough fun and interesting images to scroll Most users don't typically share what they're *doing*, a lot more of how they're *thinking* which lends itself to text over visuals Feels like it's slowly changing though

I built https://www.photocaster.xyz/ several months ago because at the time there wasn’t great photo quality uploads in Warpcast. It’s a novel idea, but the truth is most photographers on Farcaster don’t want another client to deal with. They would rather have Warpcast incorporate higher quality uploads than use another client (which they kinda did over time), at least thats the feedback I got. I don’t think making a mobile native app would change that attitude much.
