My great-great-great uncle died at the Battle of Gettysburg. Tonight I found a book of his letters home at my parents’ place. Pretty crazy to read through it all. Every letter mentions him sending money home to the family (despite frequently delayed paychecks) and ends with “Write as soon as you get this”.
