My great-great-great uncle died at the Battle of Gettysburg. Tonight I found a book of his letters home at my parentsβ place. Pretty crazy to read through it all. Every letter mentions him sending money home to the family (despite frequently delayed paychecks) and ends with βWrite as soon as you get thisβ.

Man, that original pen style looks so great β with it's flourish and sturdy confidence. Damn, what an <live> and rich connection back to a forebear... America in the 1860's - the great "typographic age" your great-great-great uncle lived in. The only form of media: books, reading and writing....no internet, no phones, no TV/radio - everyone so deeply immursed and soaked in typographic culture - collaboration (reading and writing). ποΈποΈ bench-strength ποΈ
