had dinner with a non-tech friend. he asked how I communicate with crypto people and I answered telegram turns out many normies have never heard of telegram before lol he was baffled that people use something other than whatsapp, imessage or social dms to chat bubbles are funny

I actually kinda like telegram! Good emoji reactions, some markdown support, fine group management. Better than alternatives IMO - most people donβt use Signal, it feels bland, and requires a phone number - WhastsApp requires a phone number - Twitter DM has bad group support

Oh, I actually also like Telegram very much, even tho I personally use Signal and Threema for normal DMs. I rather wanted to say, TG can be really noisy (I recently hit the 500 free group limit due to being involved in so many topics and war rooms). And for peace of mind, it can help to deactivate it sometimes π

WhatsApp and Signal are both rumored to be building username support. Telegram is fine, I just dislike that they pretend to be security focused
