i think it’s masterful distraction strategy that we’re discussing immigrants in Ohio eating pets as some abstract definition of racism instead of focusing on the *actual* issues caused by an unchecked border (national security and debt, employment, healthcare), and i think we’re all foolish to be falling for it.

100% @ted I am what the french call a "wetback" or "illegal alien" which is why I chose to revolve my branding around 👽 to own this shit. As a former illegal for 30 years, my wife works at immigration office for US Government deporting ppl & I worked in immigration a while back. Lets clear some misconceptions. As an illegal you cannot get subsidized housing/section 8. We cant get food stamps. You cannot get healthcare bc I pay for my parents out of pocket. For home loans, you usually get turned down bc you are too much of a risk, same is for college. All these are things I learned being in this life. Now what California does with is surplus budget money is up to them. If they want to make healthcare accessible their choice. If banks want to loan out bc they are capitalist also them. If colleges want to give farm worker kids scholarships bc their endowment also them. But the fallacy that we can get free shit is incorrect. Instead what we have is a propped up economy where we pay but we cant take out

There arent enough consequences is the issue. Banks should get penalized for giving loans to illegals, schools should ban us, hospitals should let us die, business shouldn't hire us they should get penalized for that. But they dont! Why? Because the current set up of having a ton of ppl paying in but not taking out fast enough benefits the larger group. You best believe if this was a TRUE issue and I mean true issue. We would go full Iraq war and make shit up to find and destroy.

my point is that it is more important for us to talk about immigration in the context of what you just shared than talk about it in context of racism. as you show, immigration is a nuanced topic and there are differences between current and proposed policies — which differ state to state. fwiw i never said "free".

Thank you for sharing this… This is so important for people to know - it’s easy to blame someone, like an immigrant, without knowing facts - Trumps camp wants to make immigrants and asylum seekers the scapegoat and it’s quite awful to see the rhetoric around it SouthPark… “they took our jobs!” Is what most people sound like sadly Also as a country we’re so conditioned to demonize anyone who get help — people on welfare, an asylum seeker, etc etc - “they’re freeloaders, leaching on society, not paying their fair share”… instead of just being happy that people who need help can get it
