Gelber Englischer Custard summer squash has been one of my fav squash varieties this summer. It has produced a good amount of fruit even through neglect on my part and nutrient deficiencies. What’s been one of your winners this season?

58 days for cocozelle? That's sooooo fast. Are you saving seeds?

I save some seeds, not usually squash because I have so many seeds laying around already. This year my focus has been collecting wildflower seeds for next year's desert project. Mainly poppy and lupine. I'll be taking a ton of cuttings with me of all my roses so I don't lose those in the move.

I want to hear more about the desert project! You're in Missoula, right? I actually have a lupine I could give you. A bunch of Egyptian walking onion bulbs as well. I'm in Bozeman.

I'm in Hyampom, CA up north on a mountain in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The desert project is one that combines affordable housing(10-30k), permaculture and solarpunk into a (hopefully) new and unseen model of living in community without it being a way too hippie(IMO) ecovillage model. 100+ homes or I won't feel accomplished. Right now research seems to suggest only 6 people live in the area full time at the moment even though it's only 30 minutes from a decent sized city.

That’s cool af! I really haven’t explored California much. Looks like you have miles of mountains and forests around you— so cool. Is it redneck-y out there? I’ve spent some time near Mt Shasta and the vibes are wild

I am blessed to live in the middle of a forest for sure. Is it redneck-y....compared to San Fran where I grew up it is 😆 it's a weird combo of redneck younger white people and the older mainly hippie pot growers.
