Social capital runs on proof of work, proof of memory, proof of “care”. Social networks that advertise convenience are at odds with this, and devalue the interactions. I believe this is why we’ve seen a fragmentation of networks and a migration to chat & private comms from public feeds (eg FB/IG) wdyt?

social capital also runs on proof of value (perceived or actual) as well. i'm not clear on what you mean by "convenience" in this context though. can you shed some light on that?

“proof of value (perceived or actual)” is such a good point an example of what i meant by ‘convenience’ is “oh great all of my friends are on IG, I’ll post and everyone can see it!” rather than proof-of-work like “i texted *you* this picture because i want your take on it”

i see what you mean. i biased, but i believe users should recognize the gap between an advertised convenience and its true purpose. choosing the right tool isn’t about ease. it's about intent. when the tool doesn’t align with the goal, it’s a user error, regardless of how it was marketed.

certainly making me think here 🤔 im not sure where i stand, but let’s assume i hold the same opinion, how might you go about remedying user errors of this nature?

as an American, i see this as a cultural issue with no simple fix. it ties into a public school system that undervalues arts, humanities, and critical thinking, alongside an economic system that forces parents to work multiple jobs instead of raising their children. both factors are crucial because they nurture emotional intelligence and critical thinking, helping individuals be less susceptible to manipulation make better decisions later in life. remedy that, remedy more user errors.

If the algo adapts to the user, is it an error if it rly does? There isn't one X or one Warpcast. My Warpcast is often a void for example, unless i start looking at "Trending" which i dislike. But the X TL can at any time become a complete unwanted list if one follows a "wrong" account. Is it a user error ?

the algo just provides content. it's merely a source of content. im it's up to the user to always be mindful of what they're consuming able to discern the signals in the noise. to be able to identify quality content from crap is a skill that can be learned, but is lacking in recent generations that have gone through the American public school system.
