Considering that it’s a foreign company all for it. We don’t know how much data they are actually collecting from people and also that they are able to control what people see and don’t allows for possible manipulation of people.

haven't really read it, or kept up to date on the debates seems to be driven largely by the cambridge analytica fiasco, and the realization that you can't unscramble the omelet once a foreign country has the unfettered ability to interfere with us elections not suggesting this will stop that, tho

Unconstitutional corporate warfare. If they can ban tik tok, they can ban anything.

TikTok is the most powerful weapon ever developed. The bill was written pretty shoddily and the long term implications may be negative, but eliminating the threat of China controlled tik tok is generally good IMO

It doesn't matter if one believes in it or not. Its one thing to implement a law, its another to enforce it. When you ban something millions of people use, you end up creating a market to serve those people by any means necessary

I agree with it - 1. Reciprocity - China has already banned western social media for same cited reasons (security/foreign influence) 2. The idea of social media being banned/controlled on a state level reinforces Farcaster value prop

The fact that they keep saying China is what gets me. I understand that he could have ties to them, but still, he is literally from Singapore.

Don't agree. All Big Socials are effectively the same: spying while we've been trained to be good, self-surveilling citizens.

I am more interested in building open networks like this one, ones without a corporation or government agenda. Imagine if there was this much momentum to support open networks as there is to control closed networks.

Not sure about the specifics of the bill - I see a ban as addressing a national security issue that allows a foreign country a channel to seed messages into your population. It's the 1000-fold modern day equivalent of airdropping leaflets into enemy territory. That's a hard no for me.

China profits off the backs of the entire worlds' intellectual property. China has been at war with the entire world in this aspect for decades. Tik tok is Chinese Spyware. Get it off your phone and your kids phone.

I’m ok with it. We need more control over platforms to avoid what’s happening with Twitter in the AU and Brazil. I see direct parallels with the U.S. Steel acquisition.

But my views on these things never seem to sit well with anyone else. I think when I say things people think it's what I think will happen when it's more of what could happen if unchecked. It's always all or nothing with everyone, when it's more multiple possibilities. If they start destroying western cities then worry

As far as tik tok being used to spy on Americans by China? Unless they plan to invade the US (If they do its because they were allowed to so the elites can have more control over us) then I don't tik tok amd China are a real threat to us. If anything, it's web3 that will digitally enslave us if we aren't careful.

I think that we need to be careful with how powerful corporations and NGOs get. Government may get demonized by Capitalists but the dirty side of capitalism is what causes human trafficking and slavery and ownership of humans. I love my country but it's obvious corporations are running things more and more.
