ideally, there shouldn't be any warring. but the point of NATO (and before that, the Marshall Plan: https://www.archives.gov/milestone-documents/marshall-plan) is the United States being able to export goods, especially the dollar. strategically, isolationism doesn't generate as much economic value as world trade.

Counter argument: "More than 65 countries peg their currencies to the U.S. dollar while five U.S. territories and eleven foreign nations use it as their official currency of exchange." To be the best, you gotta beat the best (in war). US is making sure that never happens.

Categorizing this as solely spending on war is incorrect. It’s an insurance premium to prevent catastrophic war.

That money doesn't go to 'wars', it goes to bases, personnel, equipment, tech, defense etc. Having global hegemonic influence is actually in the best interest of not only the US but largely those interested in less wars/global conflicts.

Eventually they will shift focus elsewhere and Europe will have hard times in 5-7 years.

How about these other countries buy less US products and services? USA gets all the money they spend on defense back via other means.

2 questions to balance the budget: What % of GDP should we collect in tax... how much should we spend on the defense, the rest is politics. https://overtaxed.vercel.app/

That money is going to the Military Industrial Complex and its investors who then recycle the money back to the congressional mafia. Less than half of that money is spent on anything useful. To make it worse the tax payers money is used to kill the innocent across the globe
