Here's an article that the thread links to. Apparently P/V only gained popularity by lucking into the Oprah Book Club. I've since thrown out all my P/V Russian translations and ordered the thread's recommended translations. https://www.commentary.org/articles/gary-morson/the-pevearsion-of-russian-literature/

My translation of War and Peace is by Anthony Briggs I’ve heard it sacrifices some Russian meaning for beautiful English, but don’t have any context Does anyone have a view on his translations?
