does this mean anyone can easily mint our work? Am I understanding this correctly?

yes. but it sets the creator rewards portion of zora protocol rewards to the original caster. idea is to make creators stop and think "should i mint this" before casting. inspired heavily by this manifesto i wrote about 6 months ago https://zora.co/collect/zora:0x5b8c0d2cdf985bd5521b9dc944a535bdd3a8259d/1

Very sketchy and illegal to mint other people’s work without consent! 🤯

we're experimenting with this concept: onchain is the new online. when someone shares your work online, you get exposure. imagine they're sharing it onchain and you get exposure, and money. it's not claiming ownership, nor trying to impersonate the original. it's simply another means of distribution and monetary reward

Nobody pays their bills with exposure. It would be very serious ethical concern for artwork that was already minted and sold. If I sold a piece for 2eth, my collector would be pissed if it turns into a free mint, it would completely devalue my work.

could certainly devalue your work, if you, the artist, decided to remint your work and sell it again, or give away for free. but that's not what we're experimenting with. simply another method of curation, for socially shared content, through which enjoyers support artists, while partaking in culture around their work

i get your concerns, especially as an artist myself, but this isn't an attack on artists, it's an artistic expression of my own that's informed by years as an onchain creator. i've experimented a lot as one of the top creators on zora. my weekly /enjoy tipping allowance reflects that and i'm enjoying tipping artists
