What are the issues you encounter that prevent Warpcast from being a world class app in the social category? Mainly on mobile and compared against apps like X, Instagram, Bluesky and other network heavy apps. I wouldn't compare it with Telegram and WhatsApp for example since those are local-first apps, which Warpcast isn't.

A lot of the time I’ll see a notification for a new DC but when I click into the DCs tab I don’t see any new messages until I restart the app

The state of split brain between notifications, the list of groups/people, and the actual dms/GCs makes the whole process of interacting with DCs feel half baked. It adds a ton of friction and is super confusing, especially given that I send a web dm web and sometimes don't see it on mobile or vice versa also makes me question the state of messages at any given time. Not trying to be overly critical but this kind of stuff feels like table stakes to compete with any other chat app.

Can you elaborate on the split brain between notifications, the inbox and the actual DMs/GCs? Especially when it compares to other apps like X or WhatsApp that also have a split between notifications, inbox and actual DMs

The states arrive at different times, to the point that the UX is degraded. A simple example: ask people to send you a DM, I can do this if need be. Once that notification arrives, the expectation of any given user would be to tap to open the chat. Currently, if I'm opening the notification within one to two minutes after receiving it, I will not have the messages in the actual chat, but they will have arrived via the notification. This leads to super weird user behavior where the incentive is not to open the notification, but rather read the text of the notification, hold it in your head, then tap through and reply to a notification that has been dismissed and a message that hasn't arrived, knowing that it will eventually.
