Gm parents. Question for y'all: when did your children start watching full-length movies? My soon-to-be 5yo still hasn't watched any. It was a combination of keeping focus for that long but more importantly that she gets anxious when there are "bad guys" and demands we stop.

We had a lot of success early on with the gentler Ghibli movies like Totoro and Kiki. You can even break it up into chunks over a few days. My kids are older now (8 and 11), and we love movies! We’re even easing them into classic horror movies. They were scared at first but loved Gremlins and Tremors. Next: Jaws.

attention spam vary from kid to kid, my sons started at 8 and 5 (only because the big brother was doing it) but we usually split the movie in 2 or 3 evening. 2+ hours of attention is too much for them to fully grasp the plot.

I can’t remember. My 10y old likes Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy and the 8 and 10 enjoyed The Matrix.

~3. At 18mths she watched Moana and showed high emotional sensitivity to certain scenes and we would stop as well.

my mother took our daughter to see Frozen 2 at a cinema when she was 3 (didn't ask us, but i'm not mad 🀷) she didn't watch another film until she was 5 (Totoro), because we didn't think she had the attention span she's now 7, i tried doing Star Wars IV this past summer but she got bored halfway through... πŸ˜†

5 is not too late. More important that she can express her anxieties in words, and learn to self-soothe with adult guidance/modeling. Some movies are less about the hero's journey, e.g., Sing is in the "let's put on a show" genre.
