After two years of studying Anthropology, I’ve noticed major flaws in the current scientific research system everytime I have to write a paper for uni. β€’ Journal paywalls limiting access to knowledge β€’ Big biases influencing studies and theories that are not mainstream β€’ Inefficient peer-to-peer collaboration β€’ Broken funding models I believe all this impacts on how we make scientific advancements. I’m considering building a Git-based Diamond Open Access platform for scientific research. I'm imagining it as a GitHub-like platform where researchers can work iteratively and publish findings using Markdown, LaTeX, and Typst, for easier collaboration. And relay on technologies like Arweave, IPFS, Blockchain, and zero-knowledge proofs to provide solutions to many of the problems. I’ve been taking notes about this idea for weeks now. Thinking about applying to an accelerator next year to bring it to life πŸ‘€

It is going to be hard, as technical solutions cannot fix what is essentially a social problem

I can't but help noticing the parallels to what I built with Uvio. Let's talk about some ideas and see how much common ground there is based on what I built already and what you have in mind. All of those ideas are basically information markets and the question is how the mechanisms should look like to promote the right tradeoffs.

I’d help you create that app. This issue has been bugging me for years, and I think it’s quite comparable to patents, but worse.

Yes. Digital longevity with open standards is the way. I cannot believe that in 2024 most of the important work in the world is not happening on a git-like system with open-source formats. See also: https://rishikeshs.com/file-over-app/
