I wonder if finding a way to include Web3 eco-credits in green bonds issued by reputable legacy finance players (eg HKMA, whose green bond offerings have consistently been oversubscribed), using the logic that blockchain-based MRV systems are more transparent, this might alleviate risk and increase participation.

I assume the answer will involve regulation of blockchain by nation state/legacy financial system players. Behavior is guided by incentives right? So unwanted behaviors will be shifted by disincentivizing predatory actions and incentivizing other ones.

So if I understand correctly, it’s yet another system set up to benefit a small group of insiders dumping on hopeful retail users? Why is literally everything in this space so extractive and hostile to non-insiders? Don’t the people making these decisions realize that is self-defeating logic?

Ethereum was started by Goldman Sachs alum Joe Lubin, ConsenSYS built JPMcoin/onyx, they have close ties to the highest level FDNY law firms via former SEC head Jay Clayton, the World Bank and BIS, MAS, HKMA were testing private EVM chains years ago…I think ETH will be alright. But you never know!

You know an idea’s good when you immediately see how it could be used to create utopia or start a war.

One angle to investigate might be doubling down on Farcaster as the home of the network state/network society and blockchain-enabled impact efforts like @refidao @greenpillnetwork @gpdevguild.eth @edgecity @treegens @networkstate

Love Danang! Central VN is beautiful- ungodly hot in summer though. Eat a bowl of mi quang for me, please! A good heavy machete makes opening the coconut easier btw- but IMO the move is to ask the vendor to open them and decant the water into another container.

My favorite Campbell book (so far). His lectures are great too- I recommend his East Meets West series. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF0Dcew_LBEpQbpM8znCiBG5vcF-X0urf&si=voYK0ngzMAfnIB-b

I think you are trying to make a point about institutional integrity propelling growth but in doing so you also made the point I was trying to make, which is that colonial power relations have intentionally destabilized nations in the global south to keep them dependent

Nanobots like Charles Lieber’s research at Harvard? Smart dust and neurotechnology/neuromedicine/neuroweaponry/Internet of Bodies is another interesting rabbit hole to go down. I’m curious how much of this tech has already been deployed, and in what contexts. https://youtu.be/2Zp8nHYegqI?si=b6j1EuTga7SWQZ8u

I feel like your framing here is letting a lot of criminals in power off the hook. For example, blaming the corruption of politicians in, say, Haiti, Colombia or Pakistan for the poverty and broken systems in those countries and not criminal actors in the worlds of business, intelligence, finance, government.

Hi my name is Evan (chorus: “Hi, Evan”) and I’m a Thriftbooks addict. My last purchase was 3 days ago. Betterworld books is good too! But Thriftbooks’s points system and promotions are just too good. Happy to answer any questions anyone has on how best to game their system for ridiculous deals.

The difference being that the subcultures you listed were largely characterized by a pro-solidarity ethos and antipathy towards commercialization, whereas “on-chain culture,” broadly speaking, is characterized by all-consuming, nihilistic venal greed and unapologetic, self-interested, elitist value extraction

So in your view, the way it’s been happening for the last 200 years is adequate, and the burden of change should primarily fall in poor countries in the global south?
