Have you seen this series on the metaphysics of interfaces? Seems up your alley. https://youtu.be/pGpBQgZ5IsI?si=Y3VbIb7cjQPyfhbc

Since I work in the mental health field, my first instinct is to reach out to the individual and suss out what support they feel they are lacking. On the flip side, if they are messing up the vibe, then allowing them greater latitude to dictate conditions might not be the way. Maybe a house meeting is in order?

Group dynamics are tough! Without more specificity about the individual’s transgressions (are they hostile or just awkward?), it’s hard to know how to respond. it sounds like “meeting them where they’re at” with some plain but empathetic statements of expected behaviors moving forward might be productive.

We need to do for game theory what we did for cryptography. There's a whole industry and massive community of economists, game theorists, public goods theorists who I think would be absolutely crushing it in crypto, but avoid it because of the negative reputation that the industry has (at least in many parts of the US). I don't have the brainpower to think of the most creative experiments myself, but I think Ethereum could use its legitimacy as the "most above board crypto project" to recruit and attract the talent that can think of cool experiments. I think a lot of these game theorists don't realize how insanely interesting and new these mechanisms are, how it can challenge traditional game theory, and how well-funded their ideas would be!!

I am heading back from the Funding the Commons conference in SF this weekend and the conversation was easily my favorite part. Web3 is full of smart, interesting people building for a future they want to live in.

Did you know the inventor of Ripple (the protocol that became the fintech company) is named Ryan Fugger? Can’t be that common of a name, can it?

That sounds cool. Like a Farcaster VC investor cooperative. You might be interested in this thing we just built, a dApp for turning any fundraiser initiative into a Farcaster frame: https://staging.givecast.cfce.io/

Islands in the Net and Schismatrix by Bruce Sterling were two recent reads that I really enjoyed, and his novella Green Days in Brunei. Great worldbuilding.

Prague Cemetery, Baudolino, Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana and Numero Zero by the same author are all great reads as well! Eco is my favorite. His critical theory/semiotics essays are also good, but can be pretty heavy unless you are familiar with the territory he’s describing (information theory and so forth.

I wonder if finding a way to include Web3 eco-credits in green bonds issued by reputable legacy finance players (eg HKMA, whose green bond offerings have consistently been oversubscribed), using the logic that blockchain-based MRV systems are more transparent, this might alleviate risk and increase participation.

I assume the answer will involve regulation of blockchain by nation state/legacy financial system players. Behavior is guided by incentives right? So unwanted behaviors will be shifted by disincentivizing predatory actions and incentivizing other ones.

So if I understand correctly, it’s yet another system set up to benefit a small group of insiders dumping on hopeful retail users? Why is literally everything in this space so extractive and hostile to non-insiders? Don’t the people making these decisions realize that is self-defeating logic?

Ethereum was started by Goldman Sachs alum Joe Lubin, ConsenSYS built JPMcoin/onyx, they have close ties to the highest level FDNY law firms via former SEC head Jay Clayton, the World Bank and BIS, MAS, HKMA were testing private EVM chains years ago…I think ETH will be alright. But you never know!

One angle to investigate might be doubling down on Farcaster as the home of the network state/network society and blockchain-enabled impact efforts like @refidao @greenpillnetwork @gpdevguild.eth @edgecity @treegens @networkstate
