❓Cryptoart Question of the Week ❓ There’s so much about the art community that goes unnoticed or misunderstood by those outside of it. What’s one thing you wish more people understood about the art community? And how can we better spread that message?

I’ll keep repeating this till I’m death: Art in web3 is not profit, is more meaningful and deeper than that. And well it’s more about educating rather than spreading in this scenario. At the beginning of NFTs everyone with an eth bag became a collector/gallerist/art connoisseur, it’s not how it works, there are all investors🤷🏻‍♂️

What do you mean by "it's more about educating"? In what ways?

I don’t know yet, but the difference between web2 and web3 art collectors is ABNORMOUS. When people see an NFT the first thing that pops in they’re head is: “what’s the utility? What will I eventually get for minting this?” Well in web2 is different. A collector doesn’t really need a “reason” to buy it, 90% of the time they just like it🤷🏻‍♂️

Got it; I think i understand what you mean. That you as the artist, need to educate the collector.

Yeah kinda, but it must be a common effort imho. Alone I can do 1%, but together..

Yeah; we all need to help shift the narrative away from NFT/Utility/investment into something more meaningful beyond that.

Isn’t it what art is all about? I think the two narratives can coexist. On one side you got projects (Bored Ape, Punks ecc..) On the other side you have artists (beeple, Sam Spratt, dangiuz ecc..)

I can see where you're coming from, but I believe that art can certainly be - and in this space definitely is now - about profit. The "art for art's sake" mindset is appealing but unrealistic—artists need money to live. In Web3, where financial disruption is baked in, I believe more artists should embrace art as entrepreneurship. This space shines when artists lean into profit, and those who don't care about it can create anywhere else. Doesn't have to be Web3.

Nah yeah I’m with you on this one, 100%, cause the vast majority of artists is broke (lol) But the collectors aren’t, the big ones at least. So why they should be sticking on “yo lemme milk this artist today” kinda vibe? Why can’t they just like it for the sake of it..
