I think Linear is a good example. Let’s say you want to differentiate with your own product. Linear owns what JIRA doesn’t. Adding color would mean subselecting and not competing. So best try to compete on the merits than on the brand/appeal. Duolingo actually runs counter to this. But no one competes with them!
