I've never seen people talking about philosophy, science, history, or books on LinkedIn. 

It's much more civil though. If that's what you mean?

I like the old LinkedIn experience. No chat feeds or news feeds. Just resumes and link graphs to find interesting people to meet.

I don't agree with this. LinkedIn is about ego. Here feels real, people engaging in nice discussions like this.

Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but LinkedIn for me is headhunters mass mailing me job offers that are completely out of my expertise.

I'd agree with this. I've definitely seen a divergence in content engagement type, and there isn't so much degeneracy here like Twitter. Much more professional/real like linked-in, but not entirely professional based crowd.
