Are NFTs helpful for membership passes? I own both regular online memberships and NFT based versions. And the main difference seems to be if I need to renew yearly, and whether I can sell it on at some point. So largely seems to boil down to business model, and for most businesses yearly fees is preferred.

I do like my unlimited NFT membership passes. And it’s nice that you can see some upside if the membership becomes more valuable. But seems to tough to run a sustainable business with this model. Unless you raised a lot of money for it in the bull market.

I largely agree, but there are a few other small perks, like digital identity, big perk of most memberships is telling everyone else you are part of the club(why there are so many purple pfps), but always good to ask why something needs to be on chain

The NFT pass could also include an expiration. If that’s all it’s used for, the difference might be negligible, but using the open standard of an NFT, it also allows other developers (external to the original business) to create gated experiences for those members. Or for plug & play into existing NFT frameworks.

online membership data is subject to manipulation by centralized entities. eg, starbucks user app shows deals that seem to go missing on store operator's app. Maybe due to data source being different for both interfaces. onchain data solves this.
