Others have covered the positives so I'm not going to sugarcoat this. Be prepared to put your entire life on hold indefinitely/be ready to adopt a completely different lifestyle, be fully committed and completely selfless, be aware that your relationship will change with your partner, that your body will change (if you're a woman), that you won't have time to do the things you used to, that they don't come with a manual, that education is hard, and being a role model is hard, and being what they need you to be is hard. Being a parent is the hardest job in the world. It may also be the most rewarding. Also, as much as I've tried, until you become one, it's impossible for me to convey and for you to truly understand exactly what it's like. 1 reply
