If you don’t like the “make money” consumer value prop for Farcaster—what do you think is better? Reply with a suggestion and rationale. Like replies that resonate.

My theory is we are tapped out on growth for people who care about that stuff. From your pov: Where do those people hang out? Why aren’t they here already / sticking around if they had signed up before?

Need to keep reminding us. The track needs to be on repeat. For years. I think make money brings people here but values keeps people around (maybe lol). What are farcaster values? Have you ever talked or written about them explicitly? I feel like I’ve talked/written A LOT about them, and I realize I make assumptions about your vision for farcaster based on things I’ve heard you say over the years, but I don’t actually know for sure if they are the same as what you would say.

I deleted X from my phone bc it's addictive and predictable. The network effects there are powerful though. imho you can't win being better, you can only win by being different, and that requires value props that X cannot. I always predicted that to be something to do with wallets/assets, but not simply earning.

Some people left precisely because of the ephemeral and gambling nature of airdrops. It's ok to have them, but I think we need to give impressions of durability, commitment to values, quality, innovation (in addition to the economy part). Also recently I have enjoyed a lot using Farcaster for co- working.

Do you think you tapped out on dev growth? Making money seemed like an ancillary benefit from the original thesis which was hacker-first.

But aren't ppl moving to bluesky/mastodon still? I think we're on the tip of the iceberg for this narrative, we just never fully developed it because it wasn't landing hard enough yet.

One of the reasons which make it hard to stay on farcaster is the constant need for twitter still. Its not necessarily a fault of farcaster, but a success of twitter. spaces happen there, more people giving news there, more alpha there. farcaster is a great space, better vibes and more "community", but twitter is still necessary, and thus farcaster isnt - its a bonus, a side chat. I dont pretend to know how to fix that, I just know that I must have both apps open if I want to stay up to date. Is it a matter of algorithms providing a different feel, or because the content isnt on farcaster? IDK, it's just how i FEEL.

the critical mass of users who care about unruggable social will be agents, not people.

i think the value prop has to be a prestige thing. it’s increasingly difficult to filter out noise on Twitter high-value content could easily find a niche here. @erik what would it take to make /turpentine your primary channel? https://x.com/turpentinemedia
