Let’s be honest, most of us came for the money and stayed for the cool people we met. Or maybe I’m just weird

i prefer the earlier messaging, something closer to farcaster is an economy... etc. which is closer to what @horsefacts.eth casted, make money..with a lot of nuance as to how b/c the current messaging implies solely trading alpha or rewards

-Own your audience -BYOC (build your own cult/community) Rationale: FC needs more stars. We've (you've? Merkel has?) minted some new great ones already (thank you btw) but the truth is most people are passive in social, and the biggest pain point by far for massively popular creators is the fear of not being able to properly control their own audience. Pitch it as a place where you massively derisk deplatofming, demonetization, govt ban etc, and I think you could get some viral flywheels going for an exodus off somewhere. Not set up for short form video RN I know, but the rednote moment could have been farcasters in a slightly altered universe.

Developers and network effects. I always thought farcaster would hit PMF once > 2 very different apps built on top of the network (twitter/reddit) reinforce each other. I thought paragraph conversations came close. Receipts interesting but fitness may be too small. Has to be social. I think options are - communities (discord) - niches (Reddit) - discovery (Pinterest) - search (real time Google) How about the Warpcast team maintains Warpcast but takes a big bet on client #2? Another completely line of thinking: why did Bluesky grow? Seems the answer is pick a massive and cultural stance (they picked political left). Can’t think of one that works tho, right is taken by X, left is bs, you have crypto but that’s too small.

I think the portability of the social graph is a huge value prop. And due to the TikTok thing, I imagine a lot of people recently realized they can lose an entire brand and following overnight

1/ I seriously did not come for the money or at least not directly. The initial hook was the Coinbase quest in January 2024 where the quest gave a little crypto to complete it. I was starting to build my crypto portfolio. I despised all social media for sharing /selling my info/online habits to advertisers and their predatory algorithms that tell me what I’m supposed to like or forced me to look at. When the algorithm was right, it pissed me off even more. Stop categorizing my life, my online choices - I am not my clicks. I guess that’s a better Farcaster value prop in my mind versus all other social media apps. There is no nebulous, nefarious, “we spent tens of millions on this algorithm to monetize our users” formula that is overlaid on the protocol so that everything you do here is fed into our evil formula to squeeze as much money as we possibly can from you. People hate being taken advantage of.

Are there any notable “refugees” on here who were developers of third-party Twitter apps that Musk rugged a couple years ago? I just remembered Tweetbot by Tapbots was my go-to app for several years until they lost API access and pivoted to a Mastadon client. They might have brought a good number of users to Farcaster if they’d built here instead; I gave their Mastodon client a try and thought it was pretty slick but just didn’t enjoy the network as much as Farcaster. Of course, Tapbots building a Farcaster client might have been good for the network but maybe not ideal for Warpcast as a direct competitor. Eh, this turned out to be me just kind of thinking out loud, so maybe not directly relevant to the question. But maybe there are more former builders of third-party Twitter apps who could be brought over to Farcaster.

I always thought of Farcaster as a place where I’m not the product. I pay to be here and I own my data. My usage and habits aren’t being collected to be repackaged and used against me at a later date. I can’t be de-platformed, censored, or silenced. I can build what I want on top of the protocol and not worry that my access will be turned off because of a whim or impending IPO. This is the easiest and most familiar way to get into social Web3.

Social network for changemakers. Lean into the small size of the network - it’s early but the people who are here are taking action and not just talking. Be part of something that actually matters.

"Come hang with the builders" I am here on Farcaster because I am surrounded by positive people building things; be it communities, AI agents, meme coins, consumer apps, art, etc. I like that vibe and it inspires me everyday to build my shit too. Thanks for the platform.

I’m here for the decentralization and to socialize with the kind of people that think it’s important. I think cultural tools are probably the most attractive possibility, but I don’t have a suggestion. Stuff like NFT gated spaces or something where ppl can sell tickets.

"make money" as a standalone is unappealing, to me at least - I have a full time job Im not here to make money, but to be able to make a little side change while doing what you would do anyway is kinda why I exist onchain. I dont have a facebook, I dont have a real twitter, I hardly have a real IG. but Farcaster kinda put together the perfect confluence of "get money" and "build a rad community". I know im an outlier - tons here depend on this for their income. but thats my 2 pennies.
