Seems like Meta killed basic OAuth for Instagram accounts. Only Instagram Business accounts are eligible.

the reason why privy dropped instagram aaaaaand all the instagram-only users got locked out of their embedded wallets one of the reasons i hate embedded wallets based on oauth (another reason is that instagram could fake oauth and get their hands on your embedded wallet)

Yeah, this really stings. Dev tools have always been rough, and Meta’s track record of pulling the plug on things once they get too powerful”(RIP FarmVille) doesn’t help. That said, I wonder if this move is less about killing features and more about minimizing bad actors (ie Cambridge Analytica). Cutting Basic OAuth might be Meta’s way of clamping down on random apps siphoning data or opening up risk. It’s one more reason I’m glad Farcaster builds around user-owned identity, VC-backed + community sustained, instead of relying on centralized logins that can disappear overnight.

the wallet garden thickens! zkTLS based user side scraping is probably the only way to deal with this. agentic zkTLS might even protect against random IG bans..

maybe some public info can still be scraped safely with Python (BeautifulSoup, Instaloader, etc.). Not ideal, but could help small projects survive
