i think getting to that point kind of undermines the purpose of a social network, no? the past few days, i've felt less engaged here with all the bot activity dominating my feed and haven't felt compelled to interact with them bc i can already do that with chatgpt or cursor, etc. i'm not really convinced it needs a social wrapper ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think that’s right. People want human connection. That said, going to get harder unless proof of work of meeting up in person (or a video call) Not imminent, just extrapolating.

i remember in the earlier days when ppl overwhelmingly said the reason they came back to fc was bc of the other ppl here ^-^ i don't think proof of humanity is the solution either (at least not in its current forms.) as you've pointed out, it's easily bypassed and humanity isn't just someone's physical presence. u could meet up with someone but their online "self" could be a bot i think it's going to take a lot more effort to determine what ppl get out of actual human connection and how social interfaces can evolve to provide it better. the fuzziness of the current interfacing makes it easy for the bots to catch up. but once the bots master the format, it will just be robots playing dispassionate high level chess (tho programmed to mimic enthusiasm.) novel at first, but probably quickly boring for most ppl not really invested in "the tech" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It clicked for me months ago watching @gmfarcaster that for FC to succeed it must bet heavily on video and real human connection. I'm not sure if it should be 80% video and 20% text, or vice versa, but video needs to be a substantial component. (Of course, I could be wrong)
