Where would you draw the line here? Can understand that binary-options are likely used for gambling but what about 0DTE or short-dated out-of-the-money options? Imo context matters, the same trade could be either a gamble, or a hedge depending on one's "portfolio".

Particularly ironic is when traders make bets on events like elections, which move markets and can be bet upon. The real difference, of course, is the variance. A lost bet is down -100% A lost trade is down -10%

East treats investing/gambling as the roughly same culturally whereas the west likes to separate and draw a moral line differentiating the two as something wholly different as if its objective

Both are trying to measure probabilities. When it's low probability and high return it's called gambling and when it's high probability and low return it's called investing. These two are the opposite side of the same coin and cannot be separated.
