my experience has been gmail spam/phishing detection is getting actively worse, but is this just the red queen effect of detection that's stopped improving?

Gmail’s phishing detection has gotten progressively worse over time. It is especially bad considering most of the phishing emails that make it through are trying to impersonate Google 🙃

To be fair, most humans probably can't detect that's phishing either 😜 (I got one just like it a while back and clicked "change password" before I realized it, after which I proceeded to submit some vile messages to the scammers through their landing page form.)
