How will replies work from non-members with the new channel model? 1. Only members can create a new cast in a channel 2. Anyone can reply to a cast in a channel 3. On Warpcast, member replies will appear "above the fold" and non-members will be below the fold in "Show more replies" 4. However, if the original cast author likes or replies a cast from a non-member—or a channel mod likes or replies—the cast will appear above the fold. 5. This balances the membership model for channels with the ability for discovering new people, highlighting their reply and potentially inviting them to the channel. 6. Since you can have up to 10 moderators in a channel, including helpful bots, we expect that people will build bots that help surface interesting replies for non-members (and possibly even auto-invite them). Developers will get creative. 7. Ultimately, your channel, your rules.

I think @icetoad.eth is on to something. Would be nice for anyone who the og caster follows to be above the fold. Thoughts?

Oh shit, so engagement from non channel followers will be below the fold unless I go looking for it and like it. In that case, can we get an automated way to invite all channel followers to be members? I would rather keep the experience for people as close to the same as it is today than to have a big chunk of engagement appear below the fold. It seems like it will be easier to moderate who can make new casts as opposed to looking below the fold on every cast to try and find which comments might be worthwhile. I know we'll have moderators to help, but in my experience, moderators treat it more like a passive role. "if I see something, I'll take care of it - but I'm not going to go looking for it." I know I could probably recruit better moderators too, but that's an entirely new system to think about as well.

Would you add a "join channel" feature where I can apply to be a member of that channel? 🤔 Rather than messaging them one by one, they can just see my application through notification.

On 4 you are referring to a reply, not a cast, right? Because a non-member can’t create a new cast in a channel.

Damn. Non-members getting cooked with the bots. I don't know if this is a great idea.

my gut feeling is that very few ppl will tap “show more replies” and therefore very few good replies from non members will get pulled up. if i were designing this, i would probably put replies by friends of friends last above the fold with a “non member” badge.

How can we distinguish between spam and non-members when they both appear under "more"?

Solid starting point here, thanks for clarifying. For point 6 we’re building a tool for this. Channel owners can reach out to @intori or me for automated surfacing and inviting of member candidates

i really like this model. additionally having a bot to help surface people that replies have enough likes from the members to recommend for membership would be great...
