How did Toast terminals get as (more?) popular as Square? Feels like every newish coffee shop or food spot is Toast. Square still popular with clothing stores.

Square is better for merchants who do online merch sales in addition to in-store, as it can track both inventories simultaneously. Toast has more features connecting kitchen and front of house, easy integrations with delivery services, and all around feature set specific to restaurants.

Toast is more focused on restaurants, you can open a tab, print out receipts with QR codes, etc. Square works for coffee shops where the customer is standing in front of the tablet.

Toast has an insane sales team. I think they track local business licenses. They called me ~5 days after my license was approved.
