I’m assuming the reply with 5 bullet points of what you got done this week is going to be evaluated by an LLM that’s prompted with something like “compared to job description, tenure and salary was this an expected level of output” Of course will be a massive controversy. First at-scale use of AI for “performance improvement”.

We're already doing a smaller version of that with @bountybot submissions being able to be reviewed and ranked according to the original bounty criteria

And that’s how I would reply — ask chatgpt for my 5 bullets based on what I think they want to hear. Some of these jobs are very boring and very straightforward (and necessary). Every week will be a repeat. TSA great example “I screened a lot of people, had x number of confiscations,” and bs for 3 more bullet points. Repeat. Every single employee shouldn’t be doing this but I imagine supervisors already do this type of reporting (and if not, that would seem the proper place for it and might be useful) But all of this chaos is by design anyway. Make it a miserable job so people quit. Unemployment numbers are going to be interesting. And number of wrongful termination lawsuits are going to skyrocket. Lots of pushback from independent agencies and even the FBI — mostly because Elon has no official capacity to demand this so it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

So, are we back to tying lines of code to productivity? As with any system with these rules, people will learn to game it. I still remember a guy who committed every single line to be on the top contributors list. Did he work well? He was committed to increasing his ego metrics.

This is a brilliantly concise and insightful take, on how AI might reshape workplace performance reviews, provocative and ahead of the curve.

Anyone who has worked in government will tell you, what is expected of you on a daily basis bares only a tangential relationship to your position description.
