CoinMarketCap and Coingecko approach to token tickers is like Yahoo!'s original directory. Dexscreener's approach to token tickers is closer to Google PageRank, albeit simpler. You can name a webpage the same thing, what matter is the social proof (as measured by market cap, liquidity, trading volume). Directory works when things are small (relatively) and there's friction to create. As token creation becomes frictionless, you need search and a good algo.

Dexscreener's search is much better than others for sure. they know how to use existing social signals (mcap, liq, vol) better. but don't think the reason for that is similar to google's pagerank (which figured the social trust heuristic for webpages 'backlink').

Doesn’t social proof include provenance too? Clankers for example are linked to cast hashes, which could in theory be included in Dextools/dexscreener data flow I still think @interface should be linking out to Original Cast for clankers

A custom dex Frame would do well here. Built in social proof, which is most important thing for acting quickly while avoiding scams. Take the learnings above into account. Play extra nice with tokens emerging from tech around here.

So many tokens with the same ticker. It's actually painful. If you are working to solve this problem, I have more reasons to bring people to Farcaster.

Dexscreener is redacted af. They let anyone change a tokens banner image. Clankers was changed to BS like 5 times during its epic run up. They change banners for legit products everyday when scammers submit a new $300 payment request. It’s crazy. No verification at all.

It's fascinating to see how we transition from directory-style listings to dynamic, social proof-driven rankings as markets evolve. Innovation always surfaces in scaling environments. Adaptability is essential in a decentralized space.

Interesting analogy! As the crypto space grows, dynamic prioritization like Dexscreener's will become crucial, reflecting real-time market dynamics rather than static lists. Adaptability will outpace traditional directory methods.

Totally agree. 💖👏 5 👏 As the crypto space grows, a directory approach becomes less effective. We need smarter algorithms that prioritize real metrics like market cap and trading volume . It’s all about finding what’s relevant in a sea of tokens! 🧐
