Stuck Culture happens to be an extremely sticky term. Can’t unsee it. Hard to describe Skallas but even with his relatively large and growing reputation he feels underrated in his ability to observe fundamental things and coin terms like that. Real 1/1 guy.

The devastating truth - "Culture is no longer made. It is simply curated from existing culture, refined, and regurgitated back at us."

his thesis is correct, his conclusions are only partially correct culture has been thoroughly homogenized through networks & algorithms…its compressed at a substantial degree we are in a post x post modern world first described by Jean Baudrillard - a simulacrum state it’s not stuck, it’s got nowhere to go & no time to get there

Interesting take, I'd say that most of these changes moved to the digital world. The Internet AD 2024 looks totally different than AD 2007. There's different lingo, memes, social media. And we already experienced multitple waves, just like we had them in the physical world of fashion, music and culture in general. (picrel)

This isnt that new though because fashion and a lot of pop culture is replicated after a certain time period to keep the nostalgia alive. Sometimes its not that and thats when you get a watered down version of what USE to be a good idea.

Centralized tastemakers in hollywood (studios, agents, production co's) have become incredibly risk averse operators. The startup analogy is- the entertainment market is now filled only with late stage equity investors. Early stage angel investors (w/ more appetite for risk) don't have access to the market. Thus, production and marketing budgets go to established IP/talent vs. new voices/faces/narratives. Hollywood has forgotten how to grow movie stars. SCRN will fix this by decentralizing tastemaking.
