On storage - Don't overthink it since casts you like or reply will likely be pruned at some point - Farcaster's explicit goal is *real-time* global state. - I fully expect people to offer paid (or free with ads) archiving services, a Wayback Machine type thing, etc.

And you can always buy more storage if you're a preservationist.

I see FC as more about the social graph rather than data storage. Keeping everyone shit posts indefinitely isn’t valuable imo. Maybe a way to “pin” notable posts would be useful? Or if a post is “notable” by some criteria it is saved from pruning.

I love this feature as someone concerned about privacy and reducing my digital footprint.

When a cast is pruned, does that also ripple out "refunds" to any reactions to that cast from the reactors' reaction storage?

So by default your casts on farcaster will get pruned after a year? Great feature IMO! 😊

Are you heading much demand for archival services now, in anticipation? Have some folks building hosted node services for Ceramic that may be interested in adding this if there's near-term (even if small for now) demand.

Why not create the ability to set your casts to auto-delete in 30 days or other set time? Or only for specific casts? I would use it, really not interested reading my casts from two years ago.

I'd like to have the ability to store my own casts with something like an IPFS pinning service, instead of having to pay one platform for them to persist. It would also be nice if I could pick and choose which casts of mine should be "forever" and which ones can disappear after a certain amount of time.

I was thinking on creating personal data vault for each user to store all the cast that they want. If we think in Warpcast as a graph we could think that each user can create and host their own subgraph.

If it's about real-time, could the protocol give a way to signal live users who are connected to a client right now?

Will it work that the storage gets "auto-pruned" as FC becomes more ephemeral? I.e. best case UX if not a preservationist: I just use FC without overthinking: cast, comment, like away. And the system automatically handles the cleanup of old storage. Or will we have to buy more storage from time to time?

I also really liked seeing the $ cost of storage. Paying for the network makes sense because like it’s said, if you’re not paying for it, you’re the product. Which is a very important marketing angle to sell on paying for the protocol vs free social media.
