Me too. Would like to see it happen eventually.

But if you make them decentralized, squatters will flood the system, making the namespace less useful.

in the recent past, though I do not recall their details, we happened to encounter malicious squatters to use the platform for airdrop scams by impersonation thanks to squatting.

I think this is a nice and practical solution, which does not affect sufficient decentralization at all.
