Wild to think the US inherited so much of what makes it great from the UKโ€”and how far the UK has fallen from its apex.

Do you have high confidence the US won't go this direction with backdoors? I don't.

Huge L for the U.K on this one. Won't be surprised if other countries take this as a sign to strong arm Apple to do the same. The lesson to me is clear: only trust companies who have built their e2ee in such a way that backdoors are not possible, and have privacy as their main business rather just a feature. Large entities that have competing business interests will always sacrifice security to keep other aspects afloat. If anything, decisions like this make @quilibrium's mission that much more necessary

Yeah it is interesting how the US took a lot from British institutions common law, political structures, even cultural attitudes but then evolved in a way that allowed it to surpass the UK. Meanwhile the UK lost its empire struggled with economic shifts and hasnโ€™t really found a new identity as a global leader. It is a stark contrast.

The UK failed to evolve pass behind the scenes monarchy and I believe their strong involvement in first/second world war damaged so many things.
