DnD is the OG RPG game. The Baldur's Gate series has always been the closest to the DnD tabletop experience in video game form. It gives the player agency in a rich world filled with complex characters, scenarios and stories. It doesn't play like a traditional video game.

RPGs originate from essentially throwing GUIs on top of tabletop DnD Not only does Larian return to this, it does it in an incredibly deep way and perfectly in tune with this very specific subculture Storytelling is engaging, choices are meaningful, charm is pervasive

Havent played tabletop before but been doing some sessions w 3 other friends in bg3: - really scratches that adventure and exploring with friends itch - feels incredibly open world. Especially on the first play through. - some of the scenarios your party gets into are drop dead funny.

I don't know why I liked BG2 so much. I can remember I always quoted the characters, so I guess actor's voice play was part of it. It was also a social experience, so we could talk a lot about it with my classmates (lot of details/stories). Why is it suprising that ppl find it a good game?

Divinity original sin 2, larian's other masterpiece showed that a proper D&D game was possible Bg3 is insane the self expression is amazing, both on a player build and team composition level The combat system is intuitive and rewards creativity, lots of interesting synergy makes every encounter fresh
