Nothing embodies the attitude of capital to me more than what’s happening at Vail There is no longer a sense that money is earned by providing value. It’s financial engineering and how can I degrade quality while charging the same price. Capital will squeeze both customers and labor as hard as they can. In this case, because the customers are rich, it’s turning into a whole thing now https://x.com/NewtBurp/status/1875708739262804453

Couldn’t agree more. And more so as this squeeze works its way up in the skills ladder. Obvious example is PE with physician groups. But also home services like HVAC and plumbing are seeing the same impact. There is opportunity for independent high quality services. But it’s tough. Not sure the end game.

Basically it feels like a cycle wherein capital squeezes too hard, there’s revolt, and they ease up the hand slightly. There is no incentive for anything else since extraction is far more profitable….
