kind of a bummer to see farcaster posts about follower count 'wow vitalik only has x followers' 'i have more followers than vitalik' 'it sucks to have so many followers on twitter and only x followers here' may simply be a dynamic of this type of network, but i'd love to leave follower counts behind in web 2.0

I think what we should be asking is, what is a better proxy for authority than (easily gameable) follower count?

agree. why does follower count matter if you influence or engage with none of them? I think % engagement should be the North Star metric. seems like @betashop.eth agrees. challenge is how to translate to a profile: rankings, % quartiles, badges like ‘connector’ or ‘observer’ based on engagement/activity? @ivy thoughts?

100%. The ethic I'm shilling is that here on farcaster following more than follow you is polite

Maybe there's a way for the product to emphasize conversation over followership somehow? I think Reddit does a great job of that. Surprised after all these years that Twitter hasn't adapted some practices/features from Reddit.

replace followers from UI by some sort of "engagement score" for each profile. this score would be relative to follower count. @dwr.eth

in a perfect market follower count would be correlated to content quality/engagement

Maybe hide people’s follower count. Or just cap it like linked in (can’t believe I just used them as a bench)

Something we explored when building a twitter client was switching the focus from followers to the number of lists you engage with (as a proxy for how diverse your inputs were). I wonder if a parallel could be drawn with fc?
