I have spent a long time thinking about this and one thing you have to be really careful about is straying into illiberalism when you get too lost in the food is poison sauce Yes the FDA food division is slow moving garbage Are we fat sick and unhealthy Yes But also Americans LOVE their junk food. And at a certain point with this you start getting into a dictation of personal choices right up there with vaccine mandates. Tough problem

You can have junk food without junk ingredients The 10% improvement in corporate profits from improved shelf life do not justify the massive negative externalities on health Its a corpo psyop to turn this into a liberty argument

Does the difference between these two really result in "massive negative externalities" ? The UK isn't far behind the US in obesity. And in the US, in spite of having the same french fries, has very different outcomes in different areas.

I don't know if obesity is the only metric to track here. Clearly something is in the water, given the areas closest to the Mississippi River delta have the highest obesity rates I think one of the main issues is that the negative externalities are not tracked well Take for example PDMS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydimethylsiloxane What are the metabolic effects of this additive in addition to everything else that gets into our system? > PDMS is nonbiodegradable, but is absorbed in waste water treatment facilities. Is there a connection with this and why the river delta is a hot zone for poor health? It's all poorly researched and understood
