as a former infra/ops/noc guy, i’m still very skeptical of AI being able to make building and running software systems trivial anytime soon i’m probably wrong in a way i don’t expect. AI-created and run software may be a completely different paradigm and set of abstractions

Same. Probably the 16 years in IT consulting for large corporates had made me too cynical, but I just don't see it being commoditized - it'll be a tool that will boost software engineering throughput significantly, but will never make it trivial

I love the Bobiverse series of books. Might help you imagine a little more on AI

I think it is further along than most would like to admit but I also think it's not as far as the hopium huffers are broadcasting

Seen infra guys worked, they are actually from a different planet from software developers 😂

Will start out looking like a toy with low end use cases, and quickly match and exceed. I like Eric Schmidt’s analogy of AI for programming automation with the levels 0-5 for self driving cars. Level 0: no automation (pre-2022) Level 1: programming assistance (2022-2024) Level 2: partial automation (2024-?) Level 3: conditional automation Level 4: high automation Level 5: full automation
