cheapcon. a completely unofficial farcaster conference that's as cheap and accessible as possible. who wants to help plan it? many people (myself included) couldn't attend farcon this year because it was so goddamn expensive. let's do it right instead of hosting it in the world's most expensive city?

It’s easy to host a meetup. It’s difficult to plan an event. As the number of people scales you now need connections or cash to get space, AV, food, etc.

I think Clankercon has the right idea with virtual events personally. I don't think people need to be flying around all over the place when we have the internet.

i brought this up last year as well - to host it in a smaller less expensive city. no one really listened (which is ok im not entitled to anyone's time) and the sentiment was "you can just host your own farcon" 🤧

was hoping it was gonna be in somewhere like chicago for this reason, but also easy airport and transportation. mexico city is even better if you're concerned about visas. happy to help if you plan something :)

Farcon Asia was the cheapest for me because it was in my city (Singapore — an otherwise very expensive destination to fly to and stay in), so a lot of that is relative I guess. Eventually, no matter where you organize it, travel cost will be prohibitive for a large chunk of casters, before accommodation cost is even a concern. So you’d need at least one event per continent to make travel manageable, and then aim for a secondary city. Ideally you’d start with where the barycenter of casters live and work it out bottom up
