I think I earned lots of Dad XP today. Birthday kids D&D was a success. Already scheduling the next session of Familiar Things.

D&D has been my most enduring hobby, and it was something I wanted to share with my kids. D&D was also a pandemic activity (ran an online game with both kids and some friends). So, my daughter’s request didn’t come out of nowhere…but it was the first time she asked if I would be willing to run something with regularity.

As for your 12 year old - I would find a one-shot game at a local game store…or if you’re willing to pay, you can both join a game with a paid DM. Both of you playing and learning together would be fun. Once you have a little experience, you can deep dive into the hobby. 

That being said, this next year, I plan to run some games online with some farcaster folks. If you want a seat at the table, happy to have you!

my 12 year old has been itching to start a game but I am a complete newb.
