Not sure, but it's something I hear a lot. If I had to guess, it's because of arbitrary gatekeeping (ironic, given the decentralization value prop of removing gatekeepers). And intellectual hubris. And an inability to reach outside of established early adopter circles.

The venn diagram of really good at your craft and really interested in web3 doesn't have a ton of folks in the middle. Most of my mentors have suggested waiting at least another five yrs to see if crypto even survives. Many could be great at web3 but aren't interested rn

100%. And it's easier/quicker to build interest in web3 than it is to build expertise in craft. FWIW, at this point, crypto is definitely surviving. Only question is in what form.
