We've seen Google Search getting worse, the bad AI summaries, Gemini. "Google Meet (original)". But today I saw something new. Something very old. Classic Y2K-era spam is making thru the gmail filters. From my inbox just now--what a throwback 😎

On that first point - it's genuinely been wild to watch Google slowly become more irrelevant over a full decade.. and then suddenly just become utterly irrelevant overnight. Crazy how hard they dropped the ball. gmail, youtube, android - and then that's that. Nothing of value ever again.

Gmail is a joke, YouTube is a UX disaster, I was forced to use Google Docs at school. Let’s move away from Google for: - decentralization/federation - data privacy/ownership - open-source software And tech will get funnier :)

Looks like there's a lot of sneaky tricks being used in there. Common spam filter words seem to be homoglyphed, etc. Scammers keep getting more sophisticated, and their tools get more powerful. Emails of this form work well, or they wouldn't be in use anymore. They rake in billions a year from these.
